Historic Meadowland Farm is looking for an entrepreneurial farmer to expand its vegetable operation. This is an exceptional opportunity for a young farmer (or couple) eager to lease or manage land from a highly supportive owner on generous financial terms and to build a business with the benefit of existing customer relationships and revenues. The position is ideal for someone who has apprenticed on farms and who is now ready for the next step forward in their career. The opportunity may also appeal to those with prior farm management experience who are looking for a position with considerable leeway in making decisions. This can be a lease or salaried relationship.
Most of the farm's 135 acres are devoted to grazing for its livestock, but we presently allocate about 6 acres for growing vegetables, tree fruit, and berries. Expansion for the area under cultivation is possible. A full range of equipment, dedicated storage facility/office, washing station, and refrigerated storage room are available for the farmer's use. Also, a modern and private one-bedroom apartment can be included.
Meadowland Farm enjoys the support of loyal customers who visit us at local Farmers Markets, participate in our CSA, or buy from our roadside store. We also have valued relationships with select restaurants.
Farm history / past uses of the property:
Historic farm and home. One of the Hudson Valley's original homestead farms dating from the 1700s. In the mid 20th century, the farm became increasingly devoted to cattle/dairy production, but owners have brought the property back to its more diversified beginnings over the past 20 years.

We have established beds for key perennials such as asparagus (green and purple), strawberries, and selected herbs. The orchard has approx 100 trees (mixed apples, pears, peaches).
Our livestock farmer processes about 300 lambs/year and has about 25 pigs on a free range system. He also produces rabbit and turkeys (seasonally). We also sell cut your own xmas trees
Description of tenure options:
Typically, we start a relationship with a one year, renewable lease/partnership arrangement. After an initial "get to know" year, we would be amenable to entering into a longer term relationship for the appropriate person. We also own some acreage that could be the basis for a purchase option discussion after a successful get to know period.

We have an installed base of regular customers who buy our produce via our CSA ,our farm stand, and our representation in local farmers markets. We also have selected restaurant relationships.
