Farming Status and Plans

Farming status:

Not currently farming

Description of farming status, plans, and practices:

Current mission statement: Early Greens Farm is farm dedicated to providing a high quality, consistent product to our customers. We emphasize using farming techniques that seek to protect the environment and promote the health of our customers and local communities all while remaining a profitable enterprise.

I am currently looking to intensively farm one acre to one half acre of mixed vegetable crops with a focus on lettuces and brassicas. The ability to set up a greenhouse or hoophouses would be desireable. After the first tillage of the soil I want to tarp the soil for a few weeks or months to kill all weeds. I then plan on creating 30" by 100'/50'/25' raised beds. Once the beds are established I hope to use a no till method to build up healthy soil over time. I want to be as sustainable as possible, using only natural and organic fertilizers and amendments. I would rely heavily on carefully planned crop rotations utilizing each bed for multiple plantings per growing season.

I hope to gross $50,000 in sales within 3 years, but that may be difficult the first year or two.

Description of marketing method:

I plan to market to farmers markets, restaurants, and wholesale/distributors.
