Description of the property’s current condition and current use(s):
My name is Eugene Kwak, and I am an architect and educator living in New York City. My wife, Claire, and I are seeking the right farmer to help revive an old Orange County farm. We have recently purchased 15 acres in Bloomingburg, N.Y. The property had until recently been part of Miller Dairy Farm and botanical business. We plan to replace the current housing structure there with a two-family home—one of which will be available to a farmer (at below market rent) who would resuscitate the land. The farmer would also receive a free long-term land lease for agricultural production.
Some background on us: For many years Claire and I have had a great interest in farming, particularly in the Hudson Valley. Union Square Greenmarket regulars, we have also participated in CSAs and programs with GrowNYC and Cornell Cooperative Extension for many years. We have volunteered at Stone Barns and Glynwood farms, looking to support and promote local agricultural practices. From all these experiences, we have come to highly value the importance of local farmers in New York. We hope to create a productive, nourishing and attractive homestead on this land, one we can share with the right people. Please review the attached RFP.
