Farming Status and Plans
Farming status:Not currently farming
Description of farming status, plans, and practices:
I am looking for the opportunity to lease a property or go into partnership with a landowner interested in certified organic livestock production. I have several years of experience building and managing certified organic, pasture based livestock systems.
Specifically, I work with intensive grazing system development. Primarily with grass finished beef and lamb, but I have extensive experience with commercial-scale pastured swine systems as well. From infrastructure development, pasture establishment to finishing protocols, organic certification paperwork, livestock genetics and agronomy.
I am willing to entertain any number of opportunities. I am a firm believer in low-stress stockmanship and organic practices.
Description of marketing method:
I am comfortable with direct sales. I also may have some access to higher end wholesale markets.

Description of water access required:
I am willing to build out facilities, in fact that may be preferable in some situations. I can develop water systems, fencing, and handling facilities. I have built and renovated barns as well and am willing to manage construction projects if the landowner has a desire to improve the property. Housing is very important.
Crops and Livestock
Primary crops:Grains, Hay, Other Crops
Primary Livestock:Cattle - Beef, Goats/Sheep, Pigs, Poultry
Description of livestock/crops:
Farrow to finish pastured swine: using woodlots, cropland and pasture to manage livestock production appropriatley.
Grass finished Beef and lamb: From breeding to finish. I prefer to use a forage chain of annuals and perennials to finish steers and lamb to a very high quality.
I have also developed and managed several different types of pastured poultry and layer production systems, but I prefer to work with ruminants.
I have several years of experience raising high quality certified organic forages as well. Both annual and perennial hay and baleage. I also have experience growing organic grain crops in rotation with stored forages and pasture.
Tenure options desired:Farm Management, For Lease, Partnership
Description of tenure options desired:
I am open to any number of options.
Experience & education:Formal agricultural education, Farm management, Farm employee
I have a bachelor's in Agricultural Economics and Farm Management from Purdue University. I graduated in 2010.
From 2011-2013 I worked for an established grazer on a large ranch in central Nebraska. I learned intensive grazing, grass finishing beef cattle, and stockpiling techniques for year-round grazing. I worked with irrigation systems, assisted with organic grain and hay production. I helped him develop his sheep flock up to several hundred ewes, and managed the day to day of the grazing operation. I have experience training guardian animals, managing native range and working with cattle in a custom grazing scenario.
Until the spring of 2017, I was managing a certified organic pasture based livestock and crop operation on the east coast that I built from a blank canvas. I developed a 50 sow pastured swine operation (and built the buildings for winter production), Developed a grassfed beef program from selecting the cows to designing the pasture layout. I used a forage chain finishing model. I also built a pastured broiler and layer operation. I was farming 850 acres (I grew that land base from 400), all of which were either transitional or certified organic.
I am highly motivated and passionate about my work. I am extremely mechanically oriented, a skilled fabricator and operator. Ideally, we would like to find a property within an hour of a decent sized town so my significant other can continue her career.
