Farming Status and Plans

Farming status:

Not currently farming

Description of farming status, plans, and practices:

Beginning farmer looking for acreage to devote towards pastured poultry to start a farm business. Poultry farming especially is of interest to me due to low startup costs, increasing demand, and is a fast an easy way to build soil fertility. I studied horticulture, helped manage greenhouses at college, and have six years experience working in food and flower purchasing/marketing/logistics. Operation would be my wife and I but both are enticipating working part-time to supplement until we can make full transition in the future, after building customers/getting experience.

Housing availability preferred. Simple accommodation. We can also buy a mobile home if it's okay to park it. Preferable lease would be 3 years.

Description of marketing method:

Direct. Specifics depend on location, would like to hear from landowner on successes/failures. I will focus most of our marketing on the ability to take online orders for local pickup at markets.

I'm starting with pastured poultry because of its ease and viability for establishing a farm business. I have everything-- industry data, pricing, experience working direct, wholesale, and institutional. The food industry is so screwed up and I am optioning all of my money and savings to establish this business. I will beg borrow and steal to make it happen. Contact me for more information on background and I'll elaborate more.
