Farming Status and Plans
Farming status:
Part timeDescription of farming status, plans, and practices:
I have been farming since 2010. I worked on a number of farms in Vermont and Connecticut and earned a certificate in ecologial horticulture at UC Santa Cruz before starting my own farm in central Connecticut in 2014. I ran that farm successfully for four seasons, including serving a ~50 member CSA, a farm stand at the award winning Coventry Farmers Market, and wholesale accounts with some of the leading restaraunts in the Hartford area. An unfortunate life circumstance compelled me to give that up after the 2017 season, and I have spent the last two farm seasons managing a small diversified vegetable operation in southern Vermont.
Though I have worked on several tractor scale production farms in the past and feel comfortable with that mode of production, I have grown increasingly interested in market garden style production, including permanent beds, intensive cropping and minimal use of motorized equipment. I have worked exclusively on certified organic farms and am committed to ecologically sensitive practices and limited reliance on fossil fuels.
