Farming Status and Plans
Farming status:Not currently farming
Description of farming status, plans, and practices:
My goal is to create what will eventually become (pending legality) a small scale, craft, cannabis cultivation and microbusiness in upstate New York. The idea is to first start by growing CBD Hemp, slowly building up the farm, the brand, and the business until one day I can transtion into the recreational market. I aim to be small scale, hyper focused, with an eye for craft/boutique cannabis.
I am aiming to capture the beauty, and fertility of the Hudson Valley, showcasing its unique terroir while cultivating high quality, top shelf cannabis in a natural, organic, and regenerative way. My goal is to eschew synthetic pesticides, fungicides, insecticides, and fertilizers in favor of a wholly natural, organic method of growing cannabis. By focusing on soil health and its microbiology, it is my belief that our cannabis will not only be of the highest quality, but will also give back to the earth and become and environmental boon, instead of a detriment. My goal is to maintain a close-knit, highly efficient business structure- friends and family will be at the core of everything we do. It is our hope that our all natural, premium quality, sun grown cannabis will not only position the Hudson Valley as one of the nations top spots for growing cannabis, but that we can do it a sustainable, loving, and regenerative manor as well.
I am looking to get started with the hemp operation within the next year or two, depending on how quickly things fall into place.
My dream, if you will, would be to one day turn the farm into an agritourism destination, where people could come check out the farm first hand, learn about how we grow, and experience the beauty of the area. As I also have experince as a professional chef (four years in top NYC, michelin starred restaurants), I can envision a small farm to table business on the farm as well, where top quality local food meets high end artisinal cannabis, all on a beautiful farm setting.
Description of marketing method:
I have a dedicated team, myself included, focused on all aspects of marketing and branding. Website, social media pages, promotional videos, etc. are all in the works.
Does this farmer have a business plan?In progress
Preferred location:Southeast, Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster, Westchester
Desired acreage:1-5, 6-10, 11-20, 21-50, 51-100, >100
Infrastructure required:Barns or other facilities for storage of equipment, livestock, and crops, Water access, Electrical Access
Description of buildings required:
Ideally the property has exisiting strucutres on it that will support the functions of a CBD Hemp farm (and eventual recreational cannabis microbusiness). Hay lofts and big barns for drying, farm houses for storage and eventual small scale packging and processing (think pre-rolls, jars, etc.).
Existing greenhouses would be a major plus, as they would serve as propagtion facilities for the hemp, and later could be used in the growing of recreational cannabis.
Description of water access required:
Water is essential, of course. I plan on growing anywhere between 3-10 acres of hemp intially. Access to wells, cisternes, or other streams/brooks/rivers nearby is incredibly important.
Crops and Livestock
Primary crops:Other Crops
Description of livestock/crops:
CBD Hemp, turning into recreational cannabis once the market for it is legal in NY.
Tenure options desired:For Lease, Partnership, For Sale, Other Tenure Agreement
Description of tenure options desired:
Looking to ideally lease land for a 3-5 year time range initially and, depending on the success of the business, potentially look to buy said land if all goes well, OR at the very least continue the lease for an extended period of time. Open to all types of partnerships/tenure options though.
